RESEARCH

GUBI

  • Founded in 1967; a Danish furniture design company

  • Incorporates products from different design houses

  • a trendsetter in the furniture-design market in Denmark

  • a classic yet modern look, colorful yet minimalistic

  • muted scheme with pop of vibrant colors

  • geometric patterns, brass fixtures, and emphasis on luxury

I was most inspired by strong geometric lines created by different furniture pieces and light fixtures during my visit to Gubi, and I wanted to play with lines to build on this idea and focus on lights for the theme of the exhibition. Thus, this poster focuses on the light fixtures at Gubi and advertises an (imaginary) exhibition titled Lights: a cloud of luminosity for the furniture store. I illustrated Gubi’s iconic lamps, ranging from old to new designs, in the simplest form possible and placed them as if they were hanging from the ceiling in order to recreate the sense of space I felt upon entering the Gubi showroom. One of the fixtures is Gubi’s logo; I wanted to do so in a subtle way but recognizable enough for people who were aware of the logo. For the lamps, I used the colors I found on Gubi’s website that were featured most frequently and represented Gubi’s products the best. For the overall color scheme, I added gold lines besides the black and white lines to mimic the brass part of the light fixtures.
