The first Virtual Reality project focused on building an environment with interactive objects and implementing basic 3D components, such as sound, text, teleportation, animation, and trigger. Overall goal: getting familiarized with the workflow for building VR/XR/AR software.

  • Introduction of the Unity Game Engine as a tool for developing 3D VR experiences

  • Familiarization with the workflow for building VR/XR/AR software

  • Critical thinking about the challenges involved in designing these experiences

  • Identifying strengths, interests, and gaps in knowledge

Personal Role in the Project

  • Overall a collaborative process and equal share of work in creating assets, importing assets and placing them, and implementing animation and triggers

  • Built the overall environment (the island) and the details (placement and paving of trails, placement of trees, the lighthouse, text, etc)

    • 3D objects: the beach ball. the rake and the pebbles next to the rake are able to be picked up and moved around.

    • text: for directions (the player can choose which way to go)

    • a transportation mechanic: teleportation

    • sound: four site-specific environmental soundtracks (the beach, the garden, the trail, the village)

    • animation & trigger: pebbles fly into the basket when triggered by the player entering the garden
